Ctrl+F should be Find, just like everywhere else
Ctrl+F should be 'Find'. Now it sends file. It is inconsistent with all other applications. I would expect it to pop up a search entry of a roster.
Steps to reproduce
Press Ctrl+F when you want to find something. You get file dialog to send a file (even if send file button is disabled).
Could you be more precise? Which window has the focus when you press ctrl+F?
if that opens a send file dialog, this mean you're in chat control? So what is the "find" feature in this window?
If you press Ctrl+F in roster window, it activate the find contact feature (you can press the first letters of a contact)
I use single window mode, with focus on chat text entry.
Ctrl+Shif+Fwould be a good solution.
Ctrl+Fis "Search". Everywhere except Gajim.
Well, I assumed
Ctrl+Fopens some sort of history lookup bar/dialog, but it opens a file browser dialog for file upload.
Ctrl+Fwould be better for history lookup of text in ChatView and
Ctrl+Shift+Ffor contacts search, that is if all windows are under one window.
I would prefer plain
Ctrl+Ffor searching roster, because you can search history by pressing
Ctrl+Ffor searching in ChatView as it is text in front of user?
Because it is easy to search the chat via history window.
But as I'm thinking about it... why not to search both places at once? Single text entry filtering roster and simultaneously backward-search in chat window (highlight + scroll to). Arrows navigate in roster,
Ctrl+Shift+Gjump to prev/next occurence in chat window.
Escstops searching and scrolls back to the end of chat.
User is chatting with someone, wants to start a new chat with Alice. He presses
Ctrl+F, search entry appears. As he types "Ali..." the roster gets filtered and using arrow keys he can find the other Alice and start the chat by pressing
After few hours of chatting, he wants to find something in current conversation. He presses
Ctrl+F, types something. Roster gets filtered out, but nobody cares. The something gets highlighted in chat window and he jumps to correct something using
Ctrl+G. And because he was too trigger-happy, he uses
Ctrl+Shift+Gto jump a little bit back. After he reads what he wanted, he presses
Escto cancel the search operation.
I have a patch for that, but there is a problem: ctrl+f moves cursor one char forward when user uses Emacs theme. Sothis can't do search in this case.
I removed the Ctrl+F -> send file shortcut completly.
ctrl+f in single window for everything mode search in roster
