Gajim does not connect outside the Gnome environment
Bug description
This bug is a little awkward to explain. Let's put it simply, i've been using Gajim (the version 0.15-1 available in the repository's) as my primary client on Ubuntu 12.04 laptop. Basically it connects without a problem. However, at home i've been experimenting with my old machine with XFCE and Enlightnment.
My Experience with XFCE (Xubuntu), was that gajim, did not connect with my gmail account. So i've tried several configurations.
username @ gmail.com
With:
- Host configuration disabled.
- host talk.google.com / port 5222
- host talk.google.com / port 5223
- host talk.google.com / port 443
None of this work. However Xubuntu 12.04 bundles Pidgin. So i've tried to configure Pidgin and was able to connect to my Gtalk account.
As curiosity i've returned to gajim to try to connect it since i prefer it's look. To my surprise, i launched it and was able to connect with the configuration i've had previous specified.
As i've got tired of Xubuntu and wanted a more snappier system, i dumped it and installed bodhi linux alpha 12.04 (it's an alpha but is quite stable and it is based on ubuntu 12.04). It didn't came with any Instant messaging client. So i've installed Gajim again and tried the multiple host configurations i've presented above, and wasn't able to connect. Tired of this, i remembered again to try to install Pidgin and configure my gmail account and was able to configure and connect to my gmail account. I latter returned to Gajim (as i've done when i had xubuntu installed), and surprisingly i was able to connect to my gmail account without touching the configuration.
Bottom line: Without any third party IM client configured to connect to a Gmail account, Gajim cannot connect. If i connect for instance pidgin with the gmail account it triggers something in gajim that makes it able to connect to gmail either on XFCE or Enlightnment . I've only experienced this outside the gnome environment.
Steps to reproduce
Try Gajim on XFCE or Englightnment without pidgin or other IM configured.
