Missing UI pieces for Jingle
OK, so I have Jingle working on master (aka hg/tip) but the UI is really undewhelming:
- no volume management
- no “dialpad” (aka DTMF for Jingle)
- how can I mute myself?
The use case for “dialpad”: I am calling (with SIP so far) to 1-800 number (*1800number@sipbroker.com
) for the phone conference and I need to dial-in conference room number and PIN
The UI of the “dialpad” coule be quite primitive (e.g., /dtmf
command in the chat, when we have it opened anyway)
The question is UI for mute. There are generally two options:
- Button now called “Toggle audio session” would be actually switch Call/Hang Up with some nice icons following this logic (green phone with liften up receiver/red phone with hanged up receiver) and mute would be a separate button.
- Video and audio buttons would be really just switching off and on audio and video channel (mute/unmute, switch the camera on/off), and there would be separate “Hang up” button (or maybe “Call-in/Hang up” similar to the previous one?)
I would vote strongly for the first one solution, seems to me much less complicated. The latter is apparently what Empathy has.
Concerning the UI for “dialpad”, all VoIP clients I know about have a mouse-driven graphical thingy, so it is probably kind of what users expect. However, generally speaking I think /dial
(or /dtmf
) text command would be much more useful — one can copy&paste number from somewhere else, it is much faster, etc.
