"Select messages…" row selection background highlight is buggy depending on state of hover toolbar

Versions

2.3.6 from Flathub, on Fedora 42's Wayland GNOME session.

Steps to reproduce the problem

1. Hover a message, go into its hover toolbar's "..." menu
2. Click "Select Messages…"
3. Click the messages above and below it; they become selected blue
4. Try to click the message that was underneath the hover toolbar

Expected behavior

Any message history row I click should become blue to indicate selection.

Actual behavior

As seen in the video below:

• The message under the floating hover toolbar isn't selectable (or doesn't appear to be), at least not until the hover toolbar is somehow dismissed
• Messages that had a user mention highlight background color do not have a selection background color variant
