gajim-default-nightly_20230129-1_all.deb will not install
Please first check if another issue has been opened for your problem
Versions
- OS: Ubuntu 22.04.1
- Gajim version: nightly_20230129-1 (1.6.1)
- GTK version: 3.24.33
- Python-nbxmpp version: nightly_20230129-1
Steps to reproduce the problem
- As of today, Jan 29 2023, install or upgrade
gajim-default-nightly
from the PPA https://ftp.gajim.org/debian/ unstable; in other words, if this package is not installed, add the PPA and then typesudo apt install gajim-default-nightly
. If the package is already installed typesudo apt upgrade
orsudo apt dist-upgrade
Expected behavior
I want to be able to type sudo apt upgrade
and, as part of what it does, have the gajim-default-nightly
upgrade succeed and be able to launch gajim
as usual.
I want to be able to type sudo apt install gajim-default-nightly
when gajim-default-nightly
is not installed, and have the installation succeed and be able to launch gajim
as usual.
Actual behavior
Upon sudo apt upgrade
, gajim-default-nightly
is removed from the system because of a dependency conflict. apt
complains of a dependency conflict between python3-nbxmpp-nightly
and python3-nbxmpp
(it cannot install gajim-default-nightly
because doing so requires both python3-nbxmpp-nightly
python3-nbxmpp
, which conflict).
Poking around with dpkg
instead of apt
, I think I see the reason:
-
gajim-default-nightly
depends ongajim-nightly
(a bug?) -
gajim-default-nightly
depends onpython3-nbxmpp-nightly
-
gajim-nightly
depends onpython3-nbxmpp
Hence the conflict.
These dependencies are what's reported by apt
or dpkg
for this particular Jan 29 2023 nightly. I manually downgraded back to the Jan 27 2023 nightly, the last one that apt
had archived packages for, and that installs and runs without issues.
