Inconsistent notifications behavior in 1.4 nightlies

If Gajim is in the background, it does not flash the taskbar icon anymore when I get new messages in the currently opened chat window. I have missed out on new messages like this very often: Gajim marks the messages as read without notifying me, so Blabber doesn't show a notification on my phone either.

Apart from the fact that the taskbar icon should flash again, in 1.4 it isn't possible anymore to close all chats either. I think this is a mistake, because this makes it easier to miss out on new messages (this way, you won't get a badge on the contact with the amount of unread messages either). It should allow the user to close the active chat (with Esc) without removing it from the group, too (just like closing all tabs in v1.3.x).

Versions

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Gajim version: x64 portable nightlies (up until 2022-01-12)

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Open a chat in Gajim
  2. Switch to another window and wait for a new message
  3. Gajim will not flash the taskbar icon

Expected behavior

Taskbar icon flashing

Actual behavior

No icon flashing
