Improve behavior for Send Button in connection with pressing Enter

The “normal mode” for sending messages: Return sends the message immediately, shift return enters a new line. Works as fine.

In the preferences one choose to show a separate send button, but the behaviour of sending messages doesn’t change, a return still sends the message. The extra button is useless. The intention of the button is to avoid sending inadvertently and/or to facilitate writing longer messages with multiple new lines, isn’t it?
